Real Madrid's Dani Carvajal out for two months with knee ligament injury

Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal is set to be sidelined for two months with a knee ligament injury.

Carvajal came off the bench in the second half to help Madrid beat Real Valladolid 1-0 on Wednesday night, but the club detected a problem after training on Friday.

"Following tests carried out on Dani Carvajal by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to his medial collateral ligament in his right knee," Los Blancos said in a statement on their website.

As usual, no time scale was given, as the club simply said: "His recovery will continue to be assessed."

However, the defender is expected to be sidelined for around two months and that means Alvaro Odriozola is likely to be asked to fill in.

Odriozola was a surprise starter for Zinedine Zidane's side on Wednesday, making his first appearance for the club in almost a year after spending the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich.
