Real Madrid dominates Inter in UEFA Champions League

The Blancos walked into San Siro Stadium in Milan and came out with a 2-0 win and three crucial points.

Real Madrid and Inter faced off on Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League with the teams in the number three and four spots in the group before the match, and both in need of a win to avoid the potential of not making it past the group stage.

Real Madrid was determined to turn around their group stage after two earlier disappointing games and took control of the game early on. In the fifth minute, Nacho earned his team a penalty when he was taken down in the box by Nicolò Barella and the ref pointed to the spot.

Eden Hazard stepped up to the spot since Sergio Ramos, who normally takes the penalty kicks, was injured and kicked the ball to the right of Samir Handanovic and beat him for an early 1-0 lead. The Blancos kept the pressure on their Italian opponents inside an empty San Siro Stadium and in the 12th minute Lucas Vasquez almost added to Real Madrid's lead but his shot would ring off the post and out.

Two minutes later Mariano managed to get a header on target but it was grabbed by Handanovic who was keeping his team in the game. Hazard almost got his second goal of the game but once again Handanvoic was there.

Things went from bad to worse for Inter as in the 33rd minute Arturo Vidal seemed to be have been tripped in the box but upon further review, he had stumbled on his own. He went immediately to the ref to complain and was shown a yellow card. Vidal would get in the ref's face and say something;  he was shown a second yellow which meant that Vidal was sent off.

The first half finished with Real Madrid up 1-0 heading into a crucial second half.

The Blancos continued their dominance and only a minute into the second half Mariano had a chance to double Madrid's lead, but Handanovic was doing a stellar job keeping the deficit at one. In the 58th minute, Zidane made a key change subbing in Rodrygo for Mariano.

Rodrygo would end up volleying in a cross from Lucas Vasquez on the ensuing play to make it 2-0 for the visitors. The officials ended up marking it down as an own goal due to the fact it went off the defender's foot and into the back of the net.

Inter tried its best to get back in the game but the night belonged to Real Madrid who took the victory 2-0 and, with it, three crucial points. The victory puts them now in second place in Group B. Madrid will now travel to Kyiv to take on Shakhtar Donetsk on December 1st while Inter will travel to Germany to face Borussia Monchengladbach.
