Transfer rumours

Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer hint dropped ahead of Lionel Messi to PSG move

Kylan Mbappe has been widely linked with a move from PSG to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has issued a hint that the La Liga giants want to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe has long been linked with a move to the Spanish capital but those rumours have intensified since talks over a new PSG contract have stalled.

The France forward has entered the final 12 months of his deal with the Ligue 1 club and fresh terms are no closer to being agreed.

PSG now find themselves in the difficult position of possibly losing a £160million signing for free.

Mbappe can speak to foreign clubs in January ahead of a possible summer switch, with Real reportedly at the front of the queue.

And the club’s midfielder Kroos has added fuel to speculation that Mbappe could complete a transfer.

Kroos was quizzed about Real’s rumoured transfer targets, including Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.

"I prefer to talk about signings that have already been completed," the former Germany international told Bild.

"But since Real Madrid always want the best, his signing wouldn’t surprise me."

"Next to him, Haaland is definitely the most interesting player on the market, and therefore [would] not exactly [be] cheap."

"We must not forget that we are in a period where there's not an endless flow of money and, at the same time, we are completing our stadium [which] is not free either."

It is another hint that Real could move for Mbappe.

However, the 22-year-old could be convinced to sign a new deal by PSG’s seemingly imminent signing of Lionel Messi.

Barcelona stunned the world of football by announcing the departure of the legendary forward on Friday, issuing a brief statement blaming La Liga’s player registration rules.

The Spanish giants, who are enduring a difficult period, could not register Messi because they are above the salary cap that La Liga clubs must abide by.

It has been widely reported that Messi is now close to joining PSG.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Messi’s representatives are still discussing a deal and that the 34-year-old will travel to France once a deal has been completed.

It would be a huge coup as part of Mauricio Pochettino’s rejuvenation of his PSG squad.

The French club surprisingly relinquished the Ligue 1 title for just the second time in seven years last term as Lille shook French football to win the league.

Pochettino has already made major big-name signings in the form of Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Gini Wijnaldum, each on free transfers.

Wing-back Achraf Hakimi has completed a £54m move from Inter Milan.
