Transfer rumours

Real Madrid are seeking to continue their low-cost approach to transfers and have drawn up a five-man target list

Real Madrid are seeking to continue their low-cost approach to transfers and have drawn up a five-man target list of potential free agents next summer.

On top of number-one-priority signing Kylian Mbappe, who has entered the final year of his contract, Real Madrid are considering moves for Paul Pogba, Leon Goretzka, Antonio Rudiger and Eduardo Camavinga, according to AS.

All four players are due to see their contracts expire at the end of the season, making them enticing prospects for the cash-strapped Spanish giants.

With the club's well-documented financial problems curtailing any huge moves in this summer, Real have resorted to just bringing in David Alaba from Bayern Munich on a free transfer.

The club has also moved on some significant players - including Sergio Ramos to PSG on a free, and Raphael Varane to Manchester United for £42million - which has reduced their wage bill and brought in some much-needed cash.

With Alaba having settled very well into life in Spain, AS reports that Real are looking to repeat their free-agent success and are keeping tabs on the five players to monitor their contract situations.

Mbappe remains the jewel in the crown for Real, and Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is reportedly heading to Spain this week to negotiate the 22-year-old's future.

The France forward has continued to stall over a contract extension and is said to be very keen to join Real.

Pogba's reticence to sign a new deal with United has been a long-running story, though he is reportedly pleased that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed top-quality players such as Varane and Jadon Sancho.

But Real would likely face stiff competition from PSG for Pogba as they have already been in discussions with the Red Devils over the midfielder.

Goretzka has been a key player for Bayern Munich and Germany, and new boss Julian Nagelsmann is working hard to get the 26-year-old to commit his future to the German club despite interest from United and others.

Nagelsmann said Goretzka has the potential to become 'one of the most dangerous midfielders in Europe', and his availability is being closely followed by several top clubs.

Having seen Ramos and Varane depart, Real's interest in Chelsea centre-back Rudiger appears logical, especially if he becomes a free agent next year.

The German is said to be weighing up his options ahead of penning a new deal at Stamford Bridge, despite being welcomed back into the fold under Thomas Tuchel and thriving. Once again PSG appear to be Real's main competition.

Finally, Camavinga is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young prospects in European football, and as such is highly coveted.

He is yet to extend his contract with Rennes, who are keen to cash in on the 18-year-old. Camavinga notably stated a preference for moving to Spain, which could work in Real's favour, although PSG and Man United are also keen to sign him.
