Tottenham keen on signing Alvaro Odriozola

Tottenham have reportedly joined the race to sign Alvaro Odriozola, who appears set to leave Real Madrid late this summer.

According to El Transistor, Alvaro Odriozola is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur over a late move before the summer transfer window slams shut. The Spanish defender, who is set to leave Real Madrid this month, has also been tailed by Fiorentina and AC Milan.

Alvaro Odriozola joined Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2018 and has since been a backup option for the managers he has played under. In fact, the Spaniard has not just played second fiddle to Dani Carvajal, but also Lucas Vazquez, who has fared decently as a right-back in recent times.

A loan move to Bayern Munich did not work much either despite the success he enjoyed there. To date, Odriozola has made 43 appearances for Los Blancos while chipping in with three goals and 10 assists in the process. The 25-year-old, though, is now set to leave Real Madrid, with Tottenham emerging as a potential destination.

The interest from Tottenham is not too surprising, considering Nuno Espirito Santo has been reluctant to make use of Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty so far. In fact, Aurier is believed to be on the exit trail at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and was even briefly linked with Real Madrid.

The Spurs boss has, so far, used Japhet Tanganga as a right-back, and so, it is understandable why he would want to sign someone like Odriozola, especially if he intends to shift to the system he used at Wolverhampton Wanderers. As for Real Madrid, they are unlikely to be averse to the idea of parting with the 25-year-old, having been linked with players like Diogo Dalot as his replacement.

Meanwhile, in addition to Tottenham, Fiorentina and AC Milan have also been courting the Spanish defender, although the Rossoneri have since signed Alessandro Florenzi and are no longer in his pursuit. Fiorentina, though, could be set to sign Odriozola, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that La Viola are confident of securing a season-long loan for him.

What now remains to be seen is if Tottenham can do anything to usurp Fiorentina in pursuit of Odriozola or if they scour for alternatives late in the transfer window. For now, what appears to be certain is that the Spaniard’s days at Real Madrid are numbered, with a loan exit likely.
