Franck Kessie is a man in demand in the transfer market as his contract with AC Milan is set to expire in six months’ time.
Widely regarded as one of the best midfielders on show in Serie A, the 25-year-old Ivorian seems set to part ways with the Rossoneri after five years at San Siro. Given his age, experience and quality, top clubs from across Europe are queuing up to sign the midfielder.
Indeed, the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea Paris Saint-Germain are all in the picture to land the former Atalanta prospect, along with La Liga rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid, reports El Nacional.
It had been recently reported by some outlets that Barça had taken the lead in pursuit of the 25-year-old Ivory Coast international as Xavi Hernandez & co. sought to add the powerful box-to-box midfielder to their ranks.
However, according to the aforementioned report from El Nacional, Real Madrid have eked ahead in the race as Florentino Perez looks to bring in a long-term replacement for Luka Modric.
The Merengues are also eyeing the transfers of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. Given the money that would cost to incorporate their signings, they would prefer to sign Kessie in midfield as he would not cost anything in transfer fee.
It is further claimed that Kessie would also prefer a move to Real Madrid, despite having previously believed to be leaning towards a transfer to Barça. The 25-year-old seeks a lucrative contract, with Los Blancos in a better position to meet his demands than the Catalans due to the club’s financial issues.
So, as things stand, Real Madrid look set to hijack the Blaugrana’s attempts to sign Kessie, although the report also says that Liverpool are also very much in the mix. It remains to be seen where he eventually ends up at the end of the season.
