PSG lead Real Madrid in Antonio Rudiger chase

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly the front-runners ahead of Real Madrid in the race to sign Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, there is a new leader in the race to sign Antonio Rudiger on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window, with Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Real Madrid in pursuit of the Chelsea defender.

Antonio Rudiger has become one of the most coveted defenders in the transfer market following excellent performances under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea. The German centre-back’s impending status as a free agent also makes him an appealing target for several European bigwigs.

The German international has made 176 appearances for Chelsea to date, but the second half of the ongoing campaign could see his stint with the Blues wind down. There has been very little development on the renewal front surrounding Rudiger, with Chelsea looking increasingly unlikely to tie him down to a new contract. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Widespread reports have claimed that Real Madrid could enter the transfer market for a central defender in the summer transfer window. There is very little cover for David Alaba and Eder Militao in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad apart from Nacho, who is a backup option at best.

With Jesus Vallejo failing to convince the Real Madrid boss of his abilities, signing a centre-back seems imperative for Los Blancos. To that end, Rudiger had emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, although the Spanish giants seem to have cooled their interest in the Chelsea centre-back due to his excessive wage demands.

Such a development has left PSG as the clear leader in the race to sign the German international. The interest from PSG could be stemming from Sergio Ramos’ struggles this season, while Presnel Kimpembe has recently been linked with Chelsea. With Abdou Diallo facing an uncertain future at Parc des Princes, the French giants need to sign a central defender, making Rudiger an option worth considering.

While Real Madrid’s interest in Rudiger has not waned, they might not sign him unless he lowers his wage demands. On the other hand, PSG could be the only club ready to offer lucrative enough terms to the Chelsea defender, and he will likely join Les Parisiens when he departs Stamford Bridge in the summer.
