A season of glory for Benzema

Has already put up historic numbers this term.

Nobody likes to miss two penalties in the same evening, yet Karim Benzema will be able to shake off the disappointment of the Osasuna trip safe in the knowledge that the 2021/22 campaign will be a season of glory for him. The current season has been his finest in the white of Real Madrid and one of the best for a striker in the history of Los Merengues.

Irrespective of the fact he can also win his fourth LaLiga Santander title and fifth Champions League, his personal accolades have been enormous.

Tuesday's Champions League semi-final against Manchester City will be Benzema's 600th appearance for Los Blancos, a feat which will see him tie Paco Gento.

Furthermore he has recently moved beyond the great Alfredo Di Stefano in terms of goals, scoring 318 for the Spanish giants.

Raul is next on his target list with a return of 323 goals, whilst Cristiano Ronaldo's tally of 450 goals remains a pipe dream.

Benzema is one goal shy of 40 for the season and it will be the first time in his career that he would ever have broken it.

He would also become the only Real Madrid player other than Cristiano Ronaldo to hit the milestone too, with Benzema currently sitting as the most effective forward in Europe, averaging almost a goal per game. As the top scorer in LaLiga Santander, he'll win the Pichichi trophy for the first time.

Benzema will win 20 titles with Los Blancos, with the LaLiga Santander title virtually assured, and over the course of his career he will have won 30 trophies.

Ahead of him at Real Madrid are Sergio Ramos with 22 and Marcelo with 23.

Benzema could also win his first ever Ballon d'Or trophy for his performances in 2022, as he has been the standout performer in Europe and both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo aren't even in the running.

Mohamed Salah is his nearest rival, but the Egyptian has scored fewer goals and registered fewer assists than Benzema.

Benzema will have his highest-scoring Champions League campaign no matter what, having already netted 12 goals, but he hopes to finish as the competition's top scorer for the first time in his career.

Only Robert Lewandowski is ahead of him by one goal, yet the Polish forward won't play any further part in the tournament this year.

Another record broken by the former Lyon prodigy this term came when he became the top scorer in the history of French football across all competitions.

He surpassed Bernard Lacombe and Thierry Henry, and now sits on 435 goals for his career.
