Chelsea have lost Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid while Andreas Christensen is on the verge of a Barcelona move. Thomas Tuchel could lose other defenders as well with Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso both entering the final years of their respective contracts.
Thus, adding defensive reinforcements is on top of Chelsea’s priority list this summer, but they are yet to get a deal through the line. The Blues are reportedly favourites to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla, who was close to moving to Stamford Bridge last summer, only for the La Liga side to increase their demands at the last minute.
But Chelsea aren’t alone in Kounde’s pursuit, with Barcelona manager Xavi making the Frenchman his priority summer signing along with Robert Lewandowski. The Blaugrana will need to offload a few players before registering new signings, thus, Chelsea could be considered favourites for the France international’s signature.
Nevertheless, Chelsea have set sights on another La Liga defender, with Real Madrid centre-back Eder Militao popping up as a target. While the Blues are preparing an offer for the Br azil international, Carlos Ancelotti is clear on his stance of not letting the defender leave this summer.
If Chelsea do manage to convince Los Blancos to part ways with Militao, it will make their Kounde pursuit quite complicated. As per the report, Real Madrid could move in for the Frenchman should they sell one of their first-choice central defenders, increasing competition for Chelsea as a result.
Sevilla will not allow Kounde to leave for anything less than €65 million, and the Blues might have to shell out a similar amount for Militao as well, who still has three years left on his Real Madrid contract.
The 24-year-old Br azilian formed an integral part of Ancelotti’s side that completed the double of La Liga and Champions League in the recently-concluded season. A move to Chelsea looks complicated, as Militao is closing in on a new contract with Real Madrid.
