Carlo Ancelotti confirms he will retire after Real Madrid stint

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he will retire from management once his current stint with Real Madrid ends.

In an interview with Italian publication Il Messaggero, Carlo Ancelotti dropped a bombshell ahead of the onset of Real Madrid’s 2022/23 campaign. The Italian tactician suggested that he will call time on his illustrious managerial career once he ends his current stint with the reigning La Liga champions, calling Los Blancos the pinnacle of football.

Carlo Ancelotti is one of the biggest legends in the history of the game, with his coaching career being the stuff of legends. The 63-year-old was a solid midfielder who enjoyed a 16 years as a professional footballer. But his time as a manager has yielded unprecedented success.

Ancelotti is the most successful manager in the UEFA Champions League, with the 2021/22 title being the latest feather in his cap. And the Italian tactician has proved his naysayers wrong in a big way since rejoining Real Madrid last year, guiding Los Blancos to a brilliant campaign in the 2021/22 campaign.

Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League, La Liga and Spanish Super Cup last season, and they remain one of the favourites to win every trophy in the new campaign. And the 63-year-old has now confessed that he will call time on his illustrious career when he leaves Real Madrid, calling the Merengues the pinnacle of football.

"Twenty four titles in my career? The truth is that these numbers do not matter to me. I’ll think about that at the end, when taking stock makes more sense. Now I am focused on training; I like the daily work. Until a few years ago, my priority was tactics."

"Now I focus on human relations, getting to know people and new generations. This stage at Madrid will bring an end to my career. After Real Madrid, I will retire. Real Madrid is at the very top of football. It makes sense to call it a day after this experience."

Ancelotti still has two years left on his contract with Real Madrid, although he might even get to extend his deal if he continues to guide Los Blancos to more success. The reigning La Liga champions will begin their 2022/23 campaign on Sunday when they take on Almeria.
