Reinier Jesus closing in on Girona loan move

Real Madrid attacking midfield prospect Reinier Jesus is reportedly closing in on a season-long loan move to newly-promoted La Liga side Girona.

According to MARCA, Real Madrid youngster Reinier Jesus has given the green light to a loan move to La Liga club Girona with a switch now close to completion, subject to Los Blancos’ approval.

Reinier arrived at Real Madrid in January 2020 from Br azilian club Flamengo. Regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the South American nation at the time, the 20-year-old spent the second half of the season with Castilla before leaving the club for Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan deal in the summer of 2020.

Reinier’s spell in Germany was a major dud as he failed to establish himself as a regular at Signal Iduna Park, managing just 39 appearances across two seasons, in which he managed just one goal and assist apiece. Back at Real Madrid this summer, the Br azilian does not have a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, with all non-EU spots already filled.

So, another move away from Real Madrid on loan has been on the cards for Reinier. A switch to Portuguese club SL Benfica looked likely until they decided to end their pursuit of the Br azilian.

Real Valladolid, owned by former Real Madrid and Br azil striker Ronaldo, have shown a great interest in signing Reinier on loan. However, Girona also entered the picture for his signing recently and seem set to land him on loan for the new season.

Back in the Spanish top flight via playoffs, Girona have been looking to strengthen their squad in multiple positions. They have already raided Real Madrid once to sign left-back Miguel Gutierrez on a permanent transfer. And they could now be set to land another player from the reigning Spanish and European champions in the form of Reinier Jesus.

As per the report, the Br azilian has approved a move to the Catalan outfit and has already spoken to Girona manager Michel, who is eager to incorporate the 20-year-old into his plans. What now remains is Real Madrid giving their okay for the deal to go through. The report mentions that it will be a dry loan with no permanent purchase option, with Girona paying a large share of Reinier’s wages.
