Marco Asensio throws strop as he's snubbed by Carlo Ancelotti during Real Madrid game

Premier League clubs will be keeping a close eye on Marco Asensio's situation at Real Madrid after the Spanish midfielder threw a massive strop on the bench against Mallorca.

Marco Asensio was caught throwing a huge tantrum on the touchline after Carlo Ancelotti decided not to bring him on during Real Madrid's game against Mallorca.

Real maintained their grip at the top of La Liga with a fifth win in a row against the island minnows; Federico Valverde, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and Antonio Rudiger all on target in a comfortable 4-1.

Los Blancos had to come from behind after Vedat Muriwi opened the scoring for Mallorca. Such a convincing comeback win should have ensured spirits remained high among Real players, but that probably didn't apply to Spanish midfielder Asensio.

While Eduardo Camavinga, Nacho, Luka Modric and Dani Carvajal all came off the bench during the match, Asensio was denied a late cameo against his former club. Ancelotti's decision not to bring him on went down like a cup of cold sick with the 26-year-old, who made his feelings known from the dugout.

After ending a touchline warm-up, the midfielder marched back to the dugout and threw a training bib onto a seat. He then booted something on the ground as he stomped angrily back to the bench.

When Asensio finally made it back he slammed something else down on the seat next him before crossing his arms in a clear show of anger. The TV cameras panned to him again later on after Rodrygo scored Real's third, and he did not look pleased.

Los Blancos boss Ancelotti addressed the situation after the game, displaying sympathy for the star's predicament. He said: " Asensio’s anger for not playing? I agree with him, so I’ll keep it in mind."

It has been a difficult season for the former Espanyol loanee, who has only played 18 minutes in all competitions so far. He received 10 minutes of action against Celtic in the Champions League, while he got an eight-minute run-out against Celta Vigo in August.

With his contract up in less than 12 months, clubs will be keeping a close eye on Asensio's situation as the months progress.
