Real Madrid have already had to deal with their fair share of injury problems this season, which is even more difficult for them considering the fact that there are several positions on the pitch where they do not have a lot of depth.
Of course, it is not secret that striker is one such area and Karim Benzema has not kicked a ball since he was forced off the pitch in the Champions League opener against Celtic. Rodrygo and Eden Hazard have been deployed in the false nine role to fill in for the Frenchman in his absence.
On the other hand, Lucas Vazquez got injured recently as well. And while he might not be a regular starter for the club, he still remains a key member of the team. He is the cover for Dani Carvajal at right-back while his more natural position is on the wing. Thus, they would surely be hoping that the versatile Spaniard is back soon as well.
As reported by Marca, five days before Real Madrid’s return to action on October 2 against Osasuna, Benzema and Vazquez are still not training with the group. They are not yet in a position to train at the same pace as the rest of their teammates.
It is safe to say that there were some hopes that Benzema and Vazquez would get fit over the international break and be available for the game against Osasuna.
But now, it looks like they are in a race against time to be fit, when Real Madrid return to action after the international break.
It remains to be seen how things turn out from here but one can only hope that things change over the next few days and they start training with the Group.
