Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has expressed his bewilderment after his team missed out on the Ballon d'Or club of the year award.
Despite a stellar season in which they won the Champions League and the LaLiga title, Real ended up missing out on the accolade to Manchester City.
Liverpool finished in second, despite Real Madrid having beaten Jurgen Klopp's side in the Champions League final.
Real also overcame City in the semi-finals of the competition, with Kroos left disappointed at the outcome of the Award.
Kroos tweeted: "3rd best team in 2021/22 - happy Real Madrid?".
City were crowned Premier League champions last season, while they were knocked out of the Champions League and the FA Cup at the semi-finals stage and suffered a fourth round exit in the Carabao Cup.
Liverpool, meanwhile, finished second in the league and runners-up in the Champions League but they experienced glory in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.
As well as winning the Champions League and LaLiga, Real also won the Supercopa de Espana. They went out in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.
Despite not achieving collective glory at the ceremony, there were plenty of other causes for celebration for Real at the ceremony, most notably Karim Benzema winning the Ballon d'Or for the first time.
Thibaut Courtois won the Yashin award for best goalkeeper and also finished in the top ten overall along with Vinicius Junior and Luka Modric.
