Mohamed Salah voted for Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior and Manchester City wizard Kevin De Bruyne as the best players in the world at FIFA’s annual Best Awards.
As per FIFA’s official website, Salah’s full voting list has been published with some interested results from the Liverpool winger and Egypt captain, with the Premier League superstar putting Vinicius as his first vote with De Bruyne coming in at second.
With Achraf Hakimi being a surprise third-place vote, Salah was one of just 28 international captains across FIFA’s entire union to name the Moroccan international in their top three, with eventual winner Lionel Messi not even being named by the Liverpool forward.
Given the nature of such voting systems, it’s common for players to vote for either a club or international teammate, yet Salah has seemingly bucked the trend entirely by not naming an Egyptian international or a Liverpool player, even with the Reds winning a domestic double in 2022.
Indeed, Liverpool were two games way from winning a historic quadruple, and for Salah to not name a single Liverpool teammate, or even a player such as Sadio Mane, is quite the surprise, even more so when the likes of Vinicius and De Bruyne were named in the winger’s top-three list.
Whilst such revelations are hardly going to cause riffs on the training pitch, it is an interesting note that Salah didn’t vote for any of his Liverpool teammates despite everything the squad achieved last season, with the performances of this campaign seemingly taking their toll on the Egyptian winger’s opinion.
