Real Madrid have been relatively quiet in recent transfer windows but they are expected to make some big moves in the future, as it is quite clear that this squad is in need of a rebuild.
Naturally, they have been linked with a number of players in recent times and the name of Erling Haaland is amongst them.
Considering how well the Norwegian has done in recent years. And the fact that Real Madrid need to sign a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema sooner or later, that should come as a surprise to nobody.
Haaland has been one of the best strikers on the planet for the past two to three years now. And it is remarkable that he is still just 22.
It was only last summer that he left Borussia Dortmund to join Manchester City. His numbers have been astounding in Pep Guardiola’s team as well, as he is leading the Premier League golden boot race by a comfortable margin. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 34 goals in 35 appearances this season. There are some question marks about his future at the club though.
While Haaland might be having a brilliant individual season, it does seem that Manchester City have taken a step back as a team since his arrival. Currently, they are trailing Arsenal in the Premier League title race. Thus, there are doubts about whether the Norwegian is the right fit in Guardiola’s system.
On the other hand, as reported by MARCA, French media have reported that PSG want to sign Haaland in order to create a formidable partnership with Kylian Mbappe upfront. They would be interested in triggering the Norwegian’s termination clause, which is estimated at €200 million.
Interestingly, that release clause is rumoured to become active in the summer of 2024. Thus, it remains to be seen what PSG’s plans are. On the other hand, let’s see if Real Madrid make an attempt to sign Haaland.
