Just when it seemed like Carlo Ancelotti had stabilised Real Madrid’s ship, the men in white fell to an embarrassing 4-2 defeat to Girona in La Liga on Tuesday.
Yet, the sporadic heavy defeat has been the story of the club in the league this season.
The loss at Montilivi may have no influence on the decision of Ancelotti’s future, especially if Los Blancos win the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League. However, the Italian is under pressure to make an immediate decision according to GE Globo.
The media outlet reveal that the Br azilian Football Confederation, who have been interested in signing the manager for a long time now, have given him an ultimatum to make a decision.
The CBF want a final answer by May 25 and will not wait beyond that date. After all, Ancelotti has not given a definitive yes or no to the Br azilian administration yet.
The coach has repeatedly maintained in his press conferences that he wishes to stay in Madrid. However, reports earlier in the week also spoke about him being infuriated by the criticism around him leaked to the media.
It is thus not clear whether Ancelotti and his team see another year in Madrid as a viable option or not. In the case of his departure, however, top target Mauricio Pochettino may be unavailable.
The deadline towards the end of May will arrive after the Copa del Rey final. However, the UCL final is scheduled to be held in June and will thus fall after the stipulated date.
The coming weeks will be decisive for the Real Madrid manager to make his decision. In the event of his departure, however, Zinedine Zidane remains a possible candidate to take over for a third stint.
