Chelsea 'make enquiry over Real Madrid outcast with one year left on his contract' but face competition from Real Sociedad for S

Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Real Madrid after signalling their interest in bringing one of the LaLiga side's stars to the Premier League.

The Blues look poised for another heavy summer of spending, despite the need to reduce their bloated squad, and are said to be monitoring the situation of a Madrid defender.

Newly-appointed Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino will want to get to grips with his squad that massively underperformed last season, but is already showing his authority after making a call on the future of outcast striker Romelu Lukaku.

There is also the possibility that 12 players could leave Stamford Bridge in the upcoming transfer window and heavy departures would free up room for more incomings.

That could pave the way for Chelsea to launch an audacious bid for one of Madrid's more experienced defenders, who is also wanted by LaLiga outfit Real Sociedad.

Alvaro Odriozola is reportedly targeting a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu after a frustrating season that saw his game-time significantly reduced.

The 27-year-old, formerly of Sociedad, made six appearances across all competitions last season and played just 92 minutes for Madrid.

His lack of competitive action has paved the way for a potential move away from the European giants, with Chelsea and Real Sociedad vying for his signature, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Chelsea have reportedly asked about Odriozola's availability, with Madrid expected to sanction a sale if their valuation is met.

Sociedad are apparently viewed as favourites for the full-back, but their preferred option of conducting a free transfer has supposedly been met by resolve from the Madrid camp.

Odriozola has reportedly told his current employer that he wants to return to his boyhood club after breaking through at the La Real academy before being snapped up.

Ancelotti's side forked out £35million for the attack-minded defender in 2018 and would be keen to reclaim some of their initial outlay.

The Spanish international has won the Champions League, LaLiga, and Copa del Rey during his time in the capital, while also previously becoming a Bundesliga champion at Bayern Munich.

Chelsea could fund a move for the Madrid star by sanctioning Mason Mount's transfer to Manchester United amid reports of a £55m bid being made.
