Real Madrid interested in re-signing former winger in €30 million deal

Journalist Angel Lopez has mentioned via Mundo Deportivo that Real Madrid are very much interested in signing Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo next summer.

Kubo, 22, already has a history with Los Blancos, having signed for the team in 2019 from FC Tokyo. While the 22-year-old’s talent was undeniable, there simply was no place in the first-team roster for the winger.

After four loan spells with fellow La Liga teams, Kubo moved to Real Sociedad in 2022 and there has been no looking back since for the young winger.

As Lopez writes, Madrid’s ambition to re-sign Kubo can become a reality and a move could materialize for a mere €30 million as they still own 50% rights of the player, who has a 60 million release clause.

Presently, Transfermarkt values him at €50 million, but quantifying his contributions to Sociedad, encompassing football prowess, marketing appeal, and sheer delight, is a challenge in itself.

While this news may not be the most encouraging development in the days leading up to a crucial series of matches, it serves as a testament to Kubo’s meteoric growth in just one and a half years.

At this moment, Kubo remains undecided about his future mostly because first, he finds immense happiness and fulfilment at Sociedad.

Second, he attaches great significance to the fact that he turned down enticing offers from Napoli and a team in Saudi Arabia last summer, offers that had the potential to significantly increase his current salary.

Above all, he intends to bide his time, observing the evolution of his second campaign at Sociedad.

The Japanese international will assess the offers that come his way and keep a watchful eye on the forthcoming appointment of a new coach for Real Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti’s contract expiring in 2024.

Meanwhile, Kubo has no intention of making a return to Real Madrid, as his previous stint with the club left him frustrated due to limited playing time.

He would only consider this move if he were to be regarded as an unquestionable star, a feat that is exceptionally challenging to achieve within the Real Madrid squad.

Now, as far as finances are concerned, it is worth noting that his termination clause stands at €60 million.

In the event that a team other than Real Madrid decides to secure his services, €33 million would go to Real Sociedad while the remaining €27 million euros would go to Madrid.

Interestingly enough, however, if and when Sociedad decide to sell him, Real Madrid will have the preferential option on Kubo and they can do so for just €30 million if the player consents to the move.
