Real Madrid could sell Takefusa Kubo for €70 million after re-signing him

Real Madrid could make use of Takefusa Kubo to boost their 2024 summer transfer kitty.

Takefusa Kubo is enjoying a fine season with Real Sociedad in La Liga, and this has caught the attention of several teams across Europe, including his former side, Real Madrid. He is also a target for Manchester United.

Real Madrid are preparing plans for the 2024 summer transfer window and could make use of Kubo to bolster their financial kitty. The 22-year-old spent three years at the Santiago Bernabeu from 2019/20 but never broke into the first team.

In fact, the Japanese international enjoyed four different loan spells during that time before being sold to Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022. He has taken to life at the Reale Arena like a fish to water and is today amongst the most in-form players in La Liga.

Kubo has been outscored by only Jude Bellingham and Antoine Greizmann in the league this season and is a driving force behind Real Sociedad occupying the fifth spot in the standings. This has attracted attention from several teams across Europe, including Manchester United.

And now according to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are keen to cash in on this interest. Los Blancos hold a 50% sell-on clause in Kubo’s contract, giving them an edge in negotiations. More so, given that the player also has a release clause of €60 million, meaning Real Madrid can sign him for €30 million, taking both clauses into account.

The plan is to re-sign Kubo and then sell him to Manchester United for €70 million. While some could question the ethical nature of this approach, the financial implications are not lost on the decision-makers at the Santiago Bernabeu. Not only can they sell Kubo for a decent profit, but that excess money coming in can be used to fund the transfers that Florentino Perez deems necessary to strengthen his side.

Whether it is something Manchester United or other interested teams are willing to be privy to remains to be seen. Should no other team bite, Real Madrid could very well end up signing a player they do not need, taking him away from a club where he finally appears to be getting his due credit.
