Real Madrid have had a lot of bad luck with injuries in the ongoing season as they lost their first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defensive mainstay Eder Militao both to ACL injuries very early in the campaign.
David Alaba, another permanent fixture in the side, also ruptured his ACL last month, leaving the Merengues with just two senior centre-backs in Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez.
Despite the situation being as it is, Real Madrid have opted not to reinforce the centre-back position with a new signing this summer and have decided to rely on the existing options, along with Aurelien Tchouameni as a makeshift defender.
But, if reports are to be believed, Carlo Ancelotti & co. are set to welcome one of their injured superstars back into the squad soon.
Indeed, as per Tomas Gonzalez-Martin on El Debate, Eder Militao is entering the final phase of his recovery and is expected to be fit and ready in time for Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League clash against RB Leipzig in March.
The 26-year-old was expected to miss almost the entirety of the season after he underwent knee surgery in August 2023. But, he has worked incredibly hard on his rehabilitation and has already resumed training on the pitch in recent weeks.
Soon enough, Militao is expected to resume training with the rest of the squad under the command of Ancelotti.
And, if everything goes according to plan, the Br azilian international would be ready to make a comeback against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg tie on March 6.
Militao’s early return is believed to be one of the reasons why Real Madrid opted against signing a new defender this month. And the countdown is now underway for the former FC Porto man to be back playing in the Royal white jersey.
