Transfer rumours

The only reason why Kylian Mbappe hasn’t announced his Real Madrid transfer yet

PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe is about to become a free agent, but there is no extravaganza about the most talented footballer on the planet leaving for free.

That’s because everyone knows he is going to Real Madrid.

Even key figures at other clubs, such as Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, joke about the well-known fact that Mbappe only wants Real Madrid.

At this point, PSG have given up on trying to convince Mbappe to stay. Luis Enrique isn’t playing nice with him in front of the media and even subbed him early in multiple Ligue 1 matchups. The PSG front office isn’t engaging in their usual scare tactics towards Real Madrid either.

So why hasn’t Kylian Mbappe just gone ahead and announced to the whole world that the jig is up and he is finally joining Real Madrid in 2024?

According to Fabrizio Romano, via Madrid Xtra, it’s out of respect for PSG. Fab said, “Mbappé and Real Madrid? It’s only about signing the contracts. Other details are sorted. The timing has to be respected. UCL is a big factor. I’m convinced that had PSG got knocked out in March, Mbappé would’ve spoken in public. But now with the UCL, he wants to respect PSG.”

PSG are still alive in the Champions League largely thanks to Mbappe, who scored two goals in a marvelous Remontada. Mbappe and his men beat Barcelona 4-1 in the second leg at the Camp Nou, which wasn’t the first – and won’t be the last – time the Frenchman owned the Blaugrana in their own stadium.

Because PSG still have a legitimate shot at winning the Champions League and are favorites to reach the final with only Borussia Dortmund, struggling to make the top four in the Bundesliga, standing in their way, Mbappe isn’t revealing anything about his future. Now is not the time to do that.

Had PSG lost to Barcelona in the second leg, then Real Madrid fans would have likely received official word from Kylian Mbappe that the 2018 World Cup winner is on his way. As it stands, nothing else is expected, but everyone is still in a waiting pattern.
