Real Madrid will bid goodbye to one of their greatest players of this era in Toni Kroos, with the German international set to retire this summer.
As such, the midfielder will play his final game for Los Blancos this Saturday in the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.
Meanwhile, two more veteran stars, Luka Modric and Nacho Fernandez, are also closing in on the expiry of their contracts and there is still no concrete update on their future.
Amidst the speculations, though, Modric has now come out and issued an update, stating that he has already made a decision on his next move, but refused to confirm it.
However, the Croatian midfielder did reveal that his idea is to retire at Real Madrid, the club he considers home.
"The decision on my future is made but I can’t tell you yet," Modric said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
"I have always said I want to retire at Real Madrid, this is what I really want. This would be a dream, this is my home, the club of my life. I want a farewell like Toni Kroos," he added.
Further opening up on the idea of retirement, Modric added that he still feels good enough to continue at the highest level, saying:
"I can’t say when, I have to see how I feel… but right now, I feel so good physically that I’m sure I can still play elite football. Don’t look at the age, I feel great."
There had been rumours earlier in the season that Modric could be offered a place on Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff for next season, but the midfielder ruled out such a move at this point in his career.
"I don’t know where it comes from… but no. No assistant, no 2nd coach. I’m still a player, that’s what I want to do! I want to play," Modric remarked.
