Samuel Eto'o headed Barca in front after 27 minutes when Mallorca keeper Miguel Angel Moya misjudged his downward header.
The Cameroon striker pounced on a loose ball for the second five minutes later and Mallorca's chances of a fight-back disappeared when Sergio Ballesteros and Francisco Farinos were sent off in the second half.
GETAFE 1 ATHLETIC BILBAO 1
Bernd Schuster's Getafe played some exciting attacking football and took the lead in a swift counter-attack that ended with a stylish lob from Daniel Guiza after 27 minutes.
Defender Javier Casas headed Bilbao level from a corner just before the break and Getafe finished with 10 men following Diego Rivas's dismissal in the final minute.
MALAGA 1 ESPANYOL 2
Argentine midfielder Pablo Zabaleta set Espanyol on their way to victory with a stunning shot from outside the area after 43 minutes.
Striker Luis Garcia scored his first goal for Espanyol in the 63rd minute but midfielder Gerardo pulled one back for Malaga from the penalty spot with two minutes to go.
A minute later Raul Tamudo missed a penalty for Espanyol.
RACING SANTANDER 0 CADIZ 1
Cadiz earned their first points of the campaign against a side many expect them to be fighting for survival with come the end of the season.
Uruguayan midfielder Fabian Estoyanoff's shot after 84 minutes was too fierce for the keeper and midfielder Jonathan Sesma headed home the rebound.
REAL SOCIEDAD 2 ALAVES 1
La Real recovered some local pride with a win over Basque rivals Alaves after losing 3-0 to Athletic Bilbao on the opening day. Jose Javier Barkero scored from the penalty spot after 10 minutes and extended the lead in the 35th with a 20-metre free kick. Alaves pulled one back from an Enrique de Lucas free kick in the final minute.
REAL ZARAGOZA 2 VALENCIA 2
Valencia took the lead after two minutes through midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo but were second best for most of the game as Br azilian forward Ewerthon levelled soon after and Cani put the home side in front with a header in the 28th minute.
Valencia clawed their way back into the game when former Zaragoza striker David Villa was introduced late on and scored after only two minutes on the field.
VILLARREAL 1 SEVILLA 1
Sevilla's superiority produced Br azilian midfielder Adriano's opener, firing into the corner after 40 minutes.
Mali striker Frederic Kanoute missed a penalty four minutes later for the visitors and Villarreal's Argentine striker Luciano Figueroa swivelled to level in the 73rd.
The home side lost Italian midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi to a straight red card two minutes from time.

Atletico were put to the test in La Coruna where Argentine goalkeeper Leo Franco and his defenders held firm until the final minute of the game.
Defender Joan Capdevila broke the deadlock, crashing home the winner after Sergio cut back an uncleared corner to make it two wins from two for Depor.
REAL BETIS 1 OSASUNA 0
Betis warmed up for Tuesday's Champions League debut against Liverpool with a bad-tempered win over Osasuna, the side they beat 2-1 in June's King's Cup final.
Br azilian striker Ricardo Oliveira scored from the penalty spot midway through the second half after visiting defender Enrique Corrales tripped striker Xisco.
REAL MADRID 2 CELTA VIGO 3
Chilean defender Pablo Contreras put the visitors in front early on but Celta were soon pegged back by Br azilian striker Ronaldo's 37th-minute penalty.
Br azilian forward Julio Baptista scored his first goal for Real with a diving header just before the break but Celta levelled immediately when Antonio Nunez headed home after Iker Casillas parried a penalty.
Uruguayan midfielder Fabian Canobbio wrapped up the points for Celta 14 minutes from time with a winner that hit the crossbar and bounced on the line. The linesman awarded the goal and put Celta top of the table.
