Primera Liga reports

Brief reports of Primera Liga matches played at the weekend:

ALAVES 2 RACING SANTANDER 2

With protests against Alaves owner Dimitry Piterman being staged around the ground, the home side took the lead after 20 minutes with a lob from Br azilian forward Nene.

Racing levelled seven minutes later, Chilean striker Mauricio Pinilla netting from the penalty spot following a foul on Felipe Melo.

Australian striker John Aloisi restored Alaves's advantage from a tight angle but French midfielder Wilfried Dalmat struck a low shot from outside the area to equalise for Racing in the 73rd minute.

ATHLETIC BILBAO 1 VILLARREAL 1

Bilbao went in front three minutes before the break when striker Aritz Aduriz took a pass from Fran Yeste and fired low into the far corner.

Villarreal's Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan, who had missed easier chances earlier, broke clear of Ander Murillo to level after 44 minutes.

Bilbao's Pablo Orbaiz wasted a chance to snatch victory in stoppage time at the end of the game by missing a penalty.

CELTA VIGO 2 CADIZ 0

Cadiz started brightly but failed to take their chances against Celta and have now gone six games without a win.

Celta's Jorge struck a free kick against the crossbar after 38 minutes and Chilean defender Pedro Contreras was quick to react to head the opener.

Midfielder David Silva showed poise to bring down a cross and score the second in the 73rd.

ESPANYOL 5 SEVILLA 0

Luis Garcia grabbed a hat-trick as Espanyol recovered from their midweek UEFA Cup exit to rout Sevilla.

Br azilian midfielder Fredson opened the scoring with a sixth-minute header before Argentine midfielder Pablo Zabaleta doubled the lead with a 20-metre shot.

Fredson set up Luis Garcia for the third in the 54th minute and a minute later Sevilla were unlucky to have Javi Navarro sent off after he slipped going into a tackle.

Garcia made it 4-0 with a shot from the edge of the area before completing his treble from the penalty spot in the 67th minute.

OSASUNA 1 DEPORTIVO CORUNA 2

Osasuna took the lead three minutes before the break when Argentine forward Bernardo Romeo turned in David Lopez's cross.

Depor levelled when Sergio cracked in a left-footed shot in the 51st minute and Diego Tristan registered the winner, latching on to Aldo Duscher's pass to round Ricardo and score from a tight angle in the 72nd.

REAL BETIS 2 REAL SOCIEDAD 0

Betis managed to transfer their European form into the league for once to see off a defensively suspect Sociedad.

Diego Tardelli crossed for striker Dani to score from close range after 32 minutes but Betis had to wait until injury time for the second goal.

Arzu broke down the left and crossed for Br azilian striker Robert to score at the second attempt.

REAL MALLORCA 2 REAL MADRID 1

Real's six-match winning run in the league came to an end against a combative Mallorca enjoying a resurgence under new coach Gregorio Manzano.

The visitors went ahead in the 32nd minute, Sergio Ramos heading in David Beckham's free kick.

Mallorca equalised when Ramos fouled Tuni after 53 minutes and Argentine forward Leonardo Pisculichi converted the penalty.

Angelos Basinas released Juan Arango 10 minutes from time and the Venezuelan forward rounded Iker Casillas to score into an empty net.

VALENCIA 1 GETAFE 1

Valencia dominated for long periods with Pablo Aimar hitting the crossbar and visiting keeper Luis Garcia making several important interventions.

Getafe had Argentine defender Anibal Matellan sent off after 65 minutes and Fabio Aurelio's deep free kick was headed across goal for Valencia's David Navarro to score from close range 13 minutes later.

A wayward pass from David Albelda into his own area allowed Nano to snatch the equaliser with two minutes left.

Played Saturday:

ATLETICO MADRID 5 MALAGA 0

Atletico put together their longest winning run in 14 years when they made it six out of six with this crushing victory over basement side Malaga.

Leading striker Fernando Torres took his tally for the season to 10 with a quickfire double in the first 10 minutes and Argentine forward Maxi Rodriguez made it 3-0 when he ghosted in at the far post after a Martin Petrov free kick.

Serbian striker Mateja Kezman spurned a chance to add another before the break when he fired a penalty straight at Goitia but substitute Juan Valera made it four with the goal of the night, a 25-metre rocket shot midway through the second half.

Malaga midfielder Duda was sent off for use of the elbow 12 minutes from time and Valera took advantage to head in his second and Atletico's fifth in the final minute.

REAL ZARAGOZA 0 BARCELONA 2

Zaragoza, who put Barca out of the King's Cup, looked as though they might frustrate the Catalans once again as they produced a masterful defensive display in the first half.

But they eventually gave way when midfielder Albert Celades was sent off after tipping Edmilson's shot on to the bar with his hand and Ronaldinho scored from the spot 10 minutes from time.

Substitute Henrik Larsson made sure of the win when he snapped home a first time shot after Samuel Eto'o had clipped in a cross from the right.

The game was marred by racist abuse directed at Eto'o, who threatened to leave the pitch in the second half but was persuaded by team mates and Barca coach Frank Rijkaard to carry on playing.
