Getafe and Depor edge towards last four

Getafe and Deportivo La Coruna both put one foot into the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey after recording convincing home victories in the first legs of their quarter-final encounters.

Getafe downed Osasuna 3-0 while Depor smashed home four second-half goals to beat Real Valladolid 4-1.

Daniel Guiza, who scored both goals as Getafe beat Osasuna in the league last weekend, put Bernd Schuster's side ahead in the 10th minute and further strikes from Alexis and Maris Verpakovskis completed a convincing scoreline.

Also on Wednesday, second division leaders Valladolid were unable to hold onto a half-time lead against Depor as they crashed to a heavy defeat at the Riazor.

Valladolid, who are the only non-top flight side left in the competition, went ahead through Vladimir Manchev's goal in the first half, but Depor hit back to take the win with second-half strikes from Pablo Alvarez, Ruben Rivera, Joan Verdu and Juanma.

Barcelona have their work cut cut to avoid a repeat of last year's cup exit to Real Zaragoza after they slipped to a 1-0 first leg defeat at the Nou Camp. On-loan Real Madrid defender Carlos Diogo scored the only goal of the game in the 77th minute as Zaragoza stunned the Catalan giants in front of their own fans.

Zaragoza knocked Barca out of the quarter-finals last season 5-4 on aggregate on their way to the final, where they lost to Espanyol. The fourth quarter-final first leg takes place on Thursday, when city rivals Sevilla and Real Betis go head-to-head at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
