Toni Kroos’ sudden announcement of his retirement from professional football has taken the Real Madrid fraternity by storm, with even the first-team stars baffled by his decision.
Shortly after his announcement, a host of Kroos’ teammates publicly expressed their disappointment and grief, including Jude Bellingham.
Taking to social media, the young midfielder wished the veteran on his decision while expressing that spending ‘just a year was not enough’.
Shortly after Bellingham’s post on Instagram, Toni Kroos has now issued a response to the Englishman.
Commenting on the same post, Kroos heaped praise on Bellingham, even suggesting that he is ready to take over the mantle at Real Madrid.
"Thanks, my friend. More years together would have been unfair. Enjoyed every minute since you joined! You are more than ready to take over! At age 20," Kroos commented.
Bellingham has indeed become an overnight start at Real Madrid since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
In his maiden season at the Bernabeu, the midfielder has emerged as one of the club’s most productive players, racking up 23 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.
Kroos’ message to Bellingham also aligns well with Real Madrid’s reported plans for next season, with Bellingham being identified as the replacement for the German veteran.
That means the former Dortmund starlet is set to appear in a deeper role next season, while the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Arda Guler should receive more game-time.
