For weeks, Carlo Ancelotti has publicly stated that Real Madrid will not add to their squad before the summer transfer window closes on Friday.
However, it now appears that the club’s stance has changed, and one more addition is possible.
As reported by Marca, Real Madrid are prepared to sign a new midfielder. The reason for this is due to Dani Ceballos telling the club that he wants to leave before Friday – he has been rumoured as a possible signing for Real Betis, whom he played for until 2017 when he joined Los Blancos.
If Ceballos were to leave, Ancelotti would only have three central midfielders in his squad: Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and Luka Modric. Recent injuries to Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga mean that options are light, and La Fabrica talents such as Mario Martin (Real Valladolid) and Nico Paz (Como) cannot be counted on as they have departed.
It remains to be seen who Real Madrid go for. It could be a big name, although the report notes that Manchester City’s Rodri Hernandez is not someone that is being considered by club officials at this stage.
