Real Madrid’s Appeal Against Pepe Suspension Postponed

Real Madrid will have to wait until next week to find out if the Committee of Appeals will reduce Pepe’s 10-game ban, which was imposed on him due to his violent conduct during the 3-2 win against Getafe last month.

The Committee had convened in a meeting at the Spanish Football Federation’s headquarters to review the case presented by Madrid , but a decision was unable to be reached and the panel decided to adjourn for the rest of this week.

The Portuguese was handed a one-match suspension for the straight red card for a foul on Javier Casquero inside the penalty area, four matches for subsequently kicking the Geta midfielder, another four for assaulting Juan Albin and one for dissent towards the referee.

Madrid, however, are hoping to trim the sanction down to just six games, as they argue that the attack on Casquero and Albin happened continuously one after the other and should not be treated as two separate incidents, while also bearing in mind that the player made an immediate apology.

Pepe has already served two of his 10-match ban so far and with four more league games still to go, if the appeal is successful, the 26-year-old would be able to return for the start of the new campaign.
