Real Madrid have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi, according to reports from the Daily Star.
Otamendi has been heavily linked with a move away from the Vicente Calderon in recent weeks, with United extremely keen on his services.
But, the Red Devils will now need to fend off interest from Real, who have already held talks with the Argentina international's agent.
It is believed that United are set to launch a £25million offer in the coming days, although Valencia are demanding that the Premier League club match Otamendi's £35million buy-out clause.
This could therefore open the door for Real Madrid, despite speculation that the 27-year-old has already agreed personal terms with Man United in order to join compatriots Angel di Maria and Marcos Rojo at Old Trafford.
The centre-back is currently on international duty in the Copa America after playing 38 games in all competitions for Valencia this season, scoring six goals.
