Espanyol have announced that Kiko Casilla will leave the club to re-join Real Madrid.
Casilla, a youth product of Real, moved to Espanyol in the summer of 2007 after leaving the Bernabeu outfit. A statement from Espanyol read: "RCD Espanyol and Real Madrid have reached an agreement in the last few hours to complete the transfer of Kiko Casilla to Los Blancos.
"Casilla arrived at our club in the 2007/08 campaign during which he was able to make his Primera Division debut. He was loaned to Cadiz and Cartagena before becoming our number one goalkeeper in the 2011/12 campaign. Casilla has played 126 official games for Espanyol "
The Barcelona-based club had turned a €4m bid from Real for Casilla down last week. "We have reached an agreement with all parties " Collet said in a press conference on Friday. "Casilla will be transferred to Real Madrid. The fee is €6m. Kiko told us this is a unique opportunity for him and that this was his intention "
Casilla, 28, said goodbye to the club in a news conference before travelling to Madrid. "I'm very happy to have signed for Real Madrid " he said. "This is a new opportunity in my career. It's going to be a five-year contract. I want to enjoy it. I need to take advantage and do the best I can."
Real were keen to sign a goalkeeper following the departure of veteran Iker Casillas to Porto this week. Manchester United keeper David de Gea has been strongly linked with Real this summer but no deal has been reached between the clubs.
Real, coached by Rafa Benitez, are on their summer tour in Melbourne, Australia, without Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who is sidelined by injury.
