Transfer rumours
Thursday 15. May 2025 - 10:09

Real Madrid will finalise 22-year-old’s transfer after May 25 with six-year contract

According to a report from Defensa Central, Real Madrid are on the verge of finalising the signing of Alvaro Carreras from Benfica, with the deal set to be completed after the Portuguese Cup final on May 25.

The Spanish full-back, who is a product of La Fabrica, will return to the club where his football journey began, and he is expected to sign a long-term six-year contract with Los Blancos.

Carreras, 22, will be brought in to reinforce a position that has long been seen as a weak spot in Madrid’s otherwise star-studded squad.

His arrival will also coincide with the official unveiling of Xabi Alonso as head coach, giving the new manager a promising, dynamic player on the flank who already understands the club’s culture.

Carreras’ rise has been impressive. After leaving Real Madrid’s youth setup at the U16 level, the defender built his reputation abroad, and his recent spell at Benfica has showcased his ability at the top level.

His strong performances in Portugal have reignited interest from Madrid, and the board, led by Florentino Perez, has given the green light for a move reportedly worth around €50 million.

This signing is part of a broader summer overhaul, with Real Madrid already sealing moves for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen.

These additions aim to give the team a fresh edge ahead of the Club World Cup, where Madrid will now be under new leadership and equipped with a deeper, more versatile squad.

However, Carreras’ arrival signals potential exits. Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia, both left-backs, now face an uncertain future.

With three players competing for a single position, it is unlikely all will remain in the squad. One, if not both, could be moved on in the upcoming transfer window to make room for Carreras to slot into the rotation.
