There are few men that can lay claim to a higher popularity rating at Real Madrid than legendary player and current manager, Zinedine Zidane.
The Frenchman lead Los Blancos to their eleventh Champions League last season and has seemingly galvanised a Madrid side which was left damaged by the failed Rafael Benitez era.
Now, Zidane has a chance to equal a La Liga record set by bitter rivals Barcelona during the Pep Guardiola era when they take on Espanyol on Sunday evening.
In 2011, the Catalan giants saw off Atletico Madrid 3-0 to set a ridiculous record of 16 consecutive victories in La Liga, beating the previous record of 15 set by none other than Real Madrid.
The Frenchman will be keen to take a domestic record away from Barcelona and continue his side's impressive start to the season which has seen them claim maximum points so far.
The start of this fabled streak began way back on 2 March when they saw off Levante 3-1 away from home.
The result followed a 1-0 defeat courtesy of their bitter rivals Ateltico; Antoine Griezmann scoring the only goal as Diego Simeone's team earned a priceless victory at the Bernabeu.
Since then, the Spanish giants have not looked back. A 7-1 win over Celta Vigo, who earned a Europa League place last season, has been the biggest victory in a run which has seen Zidane's side average three goals a game.
But, the result that matters most to the club and its fans all across the globe came at the start of April when they earned a 2-1 win at the Nou Camp to give themselves hope in the title race.
Domestic success did not materialise as their rivals pulled away in the latter stages of the season but the form and heart they showed during these final matches has paved the way for a potential record breaking run of games.
Espanyol, ironically Barca's city rivals, stand in their way. Los Blancos enter the fixture without Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, so will be relying on the strength of their squad to see them over the line.
The likes of Marcos Asensio, Alvaro Morata and Lucas Vasquez have all chipped in offensively so far this season, reducing the impact felt by the absences of two of their star men.
Zidane will be keen to get himself down in the history books yet again and add another impressive statistic onto his managerial CV.
