'Real Madrid don't need De Gea'

Former Madrid goalkeeper Bodo Illgner has advised the club not to spend "many millions" on the Manchester United goalkeeper, believing they don't need to replace Keylor Navas.

Bodo Illgner has warned Real Madrid about spending mega money on David de Gea, insisting they don't need a new goalkeeper.

De Gea came close to joining Zinedine Zidane's side in 2015, only for the late filing of paperwork to halt his move to the Bernabeu.

The Manchester United goalkeeper would later commit his future to the Red Devils, signing a new four-year deal in September 2015, and has been one of the club's stand-out performers ever since.

And Illgner does not think Madrid need to go back in for De Gea in future transfer windows, believing that Keylor Navas is already a suitable No.1.

He told Real Total: "With Navas Real Madrid has an excellent goalkeeper who played super last season.

"Because of his injury, he has to find his rhythm and form, but I think the goal with him and Kiko Casilla is very well occupied "

"I do not think we necessarily have to be hell-bent in the chasing the transfer of De Gea "

"Of course, I cannot rule this out. Especially at Real Madrid you have the claim to get the very best. And De Gea is among the very best in his position, he shows that week after week [for United].
