Xabi Alonso makes big transfer decision and asks club not to strengthen key area

According to an update from Real Madrid Confidencial, Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has decided to end the club’s search for a new number 9 following the breakout performance of academy forward Gonzalo Garcia at the FIFA Club World Cup.

When Xabi Alonso first took charge at Real Madrid, he made it clear that the team needed reinforcements, especially in central defence and up front.

The club responded by signing Dean Huijsen and Daniel Arnold to strengthen the backline. But Alonso remained keen on adding a traditional striker to his squad, someone who could come off the bench and change games, much like Joselu did in the previous season.

Several options were considered, but the coach’s stance changed completely after watching Garcia step up on the big stage.

The young forward, a product of La Fabrica, scored on his debut as a starter and followed that up with an assist in the next match of the Club World Cup.

His direct style, positioning, and maturity on the pitch made an immediate impression on the coaching staff.

Even though Real Madrid already boast a star-studded attack featuring Kylian Mbappe, Vinícius Jr., and Rodrygo, Alonso was looking for a striker with a different profile, one who wouldn’t mind playing fewer minutes but could be trusted in critical moments.

Gonzalo, who was initially expected to cover for Mbappe’s absence, has now earned the trust of his manager and is being considered for a more important role in the first team going forward.

Alonso has long been known for his willingness to rely on young talent, and his decision to back Garcia underlines that philosophy once again.

With the 21-year-old now seen as the ideal alternative to the star forwards, Real Madrid’s hunt for a new striker has officially been called off.
