Real Madrid could launch a move for Manchester City centre back Nicolas Otamendi this summer.
Real Madrid are tracking Nicolas Otamendi, according the Manchester City defender’s agent.
The Argentine international could be surplus to requirements at the Etihad at the end of the season after failing to convince since his £28.5m move from Valencia in 2015.
With Pep Guardiola set to bring in a long-term partner for John Stones, City could look to cash in on Otamendi.
And his agent claims he is a potential replacement for Pepe at Real, with the Portuguese defender set to leave the Bernabeu in the summer.
"Nico has a profile very similar to Pepe, who will leave at the end of the season," Martin Sendoa told Radio Continential.
"It is true that Madrid have followed him for a long time, since his time at Valencia, along with Barcelona."
Guardiola is determined to overhaul his defence after missing out on a number of high profile targets in his first transfer window at City.
Moves for Leonardo Bonucci, Aymeric Laporte and Lucas Hernandez all failed, with Stones the only defensive recruit.
With Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy all out of contract at the end of the season, defensive strengthening will be Guardiola’s priority this summer.
That could see him revive his interest in Athletic Bilbao centre back Laporte.
