La Liga wants El Clasico to be moved to Madrid amid protests in Catalonia

Both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona reject such idea but won’t have the final decision.

La Liga has asked the RFEF —Spanish Football Federation— Competition Committee to move the upcoming El Clasico between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid to the Spanish capital amid the ongoing protests in Catalonia.

La Liga wants to invert both Clasicos, so the first match between both teams would be played at the Bernabeu and the final El Clasico would take place at the Camp Nou.

Both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have reportedly rejected that idea and want to keep the current schedule intact, but they won’t have the final decision on the matter and the match will be played at the Bernabeu if the RFEF, La Liga and an independent vote reach an agreement.

According to La Sexta Jugones, Real Madrid would rather postpone the match if the authorities consider the current situation too risky for the event to happen. However, that would ultimately move the match to a regular weekday, which would be extremely detrimental to broadcasters and TV rights in general.

All in all, a decision should be made fairly soon given that the match is scheduled for Saturday, October 26th.
