Real Madrid do not have much depth in most areas of the pitch.
They might be absolutely stacked in the middle of the park but the same cannot be said about other positions. Striker certainly falls under that category after Karim Benzema left at the end of last season in order to join Al-Ittihad. The Frenchman had been the club’s main source of goals since Cristiano Ronaldo left in 2018.
Real Madrid have brought in Joselu on a season-long loan from Espanyol. The Spanish international is a good striker without doubt and has been in great form.
With all due respect to Joselu, it does not feel like Real Madrid would be able to compete for all three trophies with the Spanish international leading the line for them next season. Their only other option up top is Alvaro Rodriguez.
Alvaro is just 19 years of age and grabbed a lot of headlines with his displays last season. And it looks like his form is attracting interest in his signature.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Alvaro will not leave now or in the coming weeks or in the remainder of the summer transfer window. The club have rejected offers from Alaves and Espanyol.
Thus, it looks like Real Madrid want to keep Alvaro at the club and it is not hard to understand why. He is the only backup option to Joselu right now and impressed immensely with some of his performances last season.
Despite that, it is hard to imagine Alvaro getting too many first-team opportunities this season. Joselu is ahead of him in the pecking order and Carlo Ancelotti used a 4-4-2 formation in pre-season, with both Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo up top. Let us see if such a system proves to be a mistake in the long run.
