Valverde, Rudiger react after Real Madrid 4-1 Barcelona: “This is not a team, it’s a big family”

It was paradise for Real Madrid on Sunday night as they dispatched the ball four times past Barcelona’s helpless Inaki Pena to win the Spanish Super Cup.

The performance had dominance written all over it, for there was no period during the game when Real Madrid appeared to be on the back foot.

In the end, the men in white had Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo Goes on the scoreboard while Barcelona had just one goal to show. The result could not be more deserving or dominant.

Speaking to the media after lifting the trophy, Federico Valverde did not hold back in expressing his happiness over the win over Barcelona and the manner in which it played out.

"This title gives us tremendous enthusiasm. We are proud of the work and effort of the players and all those behind them. We are very happy to get another title."

He also elaborated on the instructions given to him by Carlo Ancelotti to dominate Barcelona’s midfield which helped them break down the opposition defence with ease.

"What the coach told us was to mark their midfielders, with Gündogan, De Jong, Pedri and Sergi Roberto, and leave the defenders free. We did very well, we stole a lot of balls and attacked in the back. The coach asked us to look for long balls. We were together when it came to defending and we were quick to attack."

Speaking about how the team does not have time to celebrate the victory with the clash against Atletico Madrid just around the corner, the Uruguayan international said,

"You have to enjoy every moment and be able to value these titles. We have won the Super Cup against the best rivals in Spain. There are still many competitions and we have a very important match against Atlético."

Finally, he gave his two cents on the tough challenge that lay ahead and the team’s preparation for the same.

"When I enter the locker room, everyone will be talking about Atlético. I wish time could stop right now and that my family and all the fans of Spain could be there to enjoy these moments."

Antonio Rudiger also spoke to the media, and he echoed his teammates’ happiness over winning the title.

"I am very happy because it is my first Spanish Super Cup. I’m very happy, like everyone on the team.”

“The first minutes of the team have been very good. It’s been two direct goals, but I think we needed more goals," he added on the team’s dominance in the opening spell.

Finally, the defender expressed his pride over being a part of the Galacticos’ core setup and the spirit in the dressing room that helped them rise to the top.

"I’m a little crazy but always positive, this is very important. I am very happy to be here. For me, this is not a team, it’s a big family."
