Real Madrid Makes New Signing In January Transfer Window

Real Madrid has signed a new player in the ongoing transfer window according to AS.

On Wednesday this week, 17-year-old goalkeeper Illia Voloshyn will put pen to paper with Los Blancos until June 30, 2026 after they struck an agreement with his current club Rayo Majadahonda.

Standing at 2.02 meters tall, Voloshyn caught Madrid's eye through his impressive aerial game but also his footwork and reflexes.

Real Madrid had been in negotations with Rayo Majadahonda to sign him for months AS explains, and the outlet describes the youngster as "one of the most promising goalkeepers in Europe".

Scouts consider Voloshyn to be a high-level talent with significant potential, but one with huge capacity for improvement that is now set to receive elite training at Madrid where he will join the Castilla reserve outfit.

Voloshyn is a compatriot of current first team shotstopper Andriy Lunin hailing from Ukraine, and it is thought that the presence of his senior soon-to-be-teammate will be positive for the teenager's integration and adaptation.

One day, Voloshyn will hope to provide competition to Lunin in the first XI where Thiabaut Courtois is usually top dog.

The Belgian has been out for most of the season thanks to an ACL injury forcing head coach Carlo Ancelotti to keep rotating between Lunin and Chelsea loanee Kepa.

Both men have made costly errors at various points of the current campaign but the Italian rushed to their defense before the media.

"I believe that immaculate goalkeepers do not exist," Ancelotti recently stated. "Goalkeepers make mistakes, as Kepa and Lunin have done. The confidence is the same. The debate is external, there is no debate here."

At present, Voloshyn is way down the pecking order with 18-year-old Fran Gonzalez expected to move up from Castilla to the senior ranks next term after already making a matchday squad against Sevilla in 2022/2023 as one of the La Fabrica academy's most exciting prospects.

Other rivals include 21-year-old Mario de Luis and 19-year-old Diego Pineiro, and it now remains to be seen who emerges out of the pack to succeed an individual in Courtois who is widely-considered to be one of the best in his position found anywhere in the sport.
