Despite being just 25 years old, Kylian Mbappe is one of the biggest names in world football.
Rightly considered one of the best players on the planet, he has conquered the World Cup and French football at a tender age and is looking for more greatness as he makes his way to Real Madrid.
At the Spanish capital, the phenom will link up with some of the best in the business in Toni Kroos, Vinicius Jr, Eder Militao and Jude Bellingham, giving him the best possible chance of cementing his greatness in history. His transfer to the Spanish capital is all but complete, with only the final details being worked out.
As the protagonist for both PSG and the French National Team, Mbappe dons some of the most important jersey numbers on both fronts. He is the #10 for Les Bleus, but almost synonymous with the #7 jersey in France as it is his number with PSG.
According to reports from AS, Mbappe will don the No.9 jersey at Real Madrid, taking over the legacy of his compatriot Karim Benzema. Moreover, it is only apt considering that he will serve as Los Blancos’ primary goalscoring outlet in central attack.
Another reason why Mbappe has chosen the strikers’ number is because the #7 shirt in Madrid belongs to Vinicius Jr, one of the main protagonists at the club.
Of the vacant kit numbers at the club currently, the #9 might well be Mbappe’s best option and the player seems to have accepted the same.
There was, and still is, a good chance that the #10 jersey opens up next summer after Luka Modric’s departure. As Mbappe’s number on the international stage, it is strange that Mbappe has not pushed to take over that shirt for next season.
The reasons for his decision could be numerous, but it appears that the decision to don the No. 9 has a lot to do with his position on the field at Real Madrid.
Either way, however, the player is destined for greatness and will mark an era for Los Blancos.
