La Liga high-flying club Girona will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dani Ceballos is the subject of interest from Girona. The White and Reds are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Aleix Garcia. The 27-year-old Real Madrid midfielder has thus emerged as a target for the high-flying La Liga outfit.
Dani Ceballos has endured a frustrating spell at Real Madrid since arriving from Real Betis in July 2017. The Spaniard was one of the most promising young midfielders in the world when he joined Los Blancos, and the deal was seemingly a coup at the time. However, fate has had different plans for him.
The 27-year-old has never been a regular starter for Real Madrid due to the presence of top-class midfielders like Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, and Eduardo Camavinga. So, Ceballos has been a backup for Real Madrid throughout his stint, with regular game time only coming his way during his loan spell at Arsenal.
The Spanish midfielder has not even managed 1,000 minutes of game time thus far this season, chipping in with one goal and two assists in 27 appearances across all competitions. So, a summer departure from Real Madrid might be on the cards for Ceballos as he looks to resurrect his stuttering career. And Girona might offer him an escape route from the Santiago Bernabeu.
Girona’s interest in Dani Ceballos is understandable. The White and Reds are in a spot of bother over Aleix Garcia’s long-term future amid his links with Bayer Leverkusen and Barcelona. So, the high-flying La Liga club must scour the market for a long-term replacement as they prepare for a campaign in the UEFA Champions League next term.
Ceballos has thus emerged as a viable target for Girona, with the 27-year-old unlikely to cost a bomb. Real Madrid will demand around €15 million to part ways with the Spaniard, making him an affordable target.
A move to Girona might appeal to Ceballos, considering the White and Reds can offer UEFA Champions League football. So, it will be interesting to see if the Spanish international plies his trade at Estadi Montilivi next season.
