Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has officially been crowned the Golden Boot winner for the 2024/25 season.
The French star, in his first year at Real Madrid, finished La Liga with 31 goals in 34 games, earning 62 coefficient points.
Thanks to UEFA’s weighted scoring system, which values goals in Spain more highly than those in lower-ranked leagues, Mbappe has taken home the award as Europe’s top scorer across domestic competitions.
Although Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres scored more goals overall, netting 39 in the Portuguese league, his total fell short in the coefficient rankings, where each of his goals was worth only 1.5 points.
In contrast, each of Mbappe’s goals in La Liga was worth 2 points. That gave the Frenchman the edge needed to claim the prestigious Golden Boot.
This is the first time Mbappe has won the Golden Boot in his career. For Real Madrid, this marks their fifth Golden Boot win.
Cristiano Ronaldo claimed it three times (2011, 2014, 2015), and Hugo Sanchez won it once (1990).
As for the Pichichi, Mbappe is now the 29th Madrid player to win it, more than any other club in Spanish football.
Mbappe wrapped up his league campaign with a clinical brace against Real Sociedad, pushing him ahead of Gyokeres and also widening the gap over Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who was in the race until the final weeks.
His performances have not just been good, they have been historic. With 42 goals in all competitions, Mbappe is now the highest-scoring debutant in Real Madrid history, surpassing the long-standing record set by Ivan Zamorano in the 1992/93 season.
In just one season, Mbappe has already made his mark on Real Madrid and European football.
With a Golden Boot, a Pichichi Trophy, and a debut season full of goals, he has proven exactly why the club fought so hard to sign him.
