Real Madrid suffer injury scare as defender exits pitch with cramps during international duty

Real Madrid were left holding their breath as defender David Alaba experienced an injury scare while playing for Austria.

According to Defensa Central, the veteran Madrid star had to leave the pitch in the 77th minute during Austria’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina due to cramps in both legs.

Alaba, who had been playing steadily until that point, immediately signalled for a substitution while stretching on the field.

Although he left calmly and without visible signs of distress, the club will closely monitor his condition in the coming days. A medical assessment is expected once he returns to Valdebebas.

Alaba had started the match and played 77 minutes before muscle problems forced him off.

The Real Madrid defender had not played high-intensity minutes for several weeks, which appears to have contributed to the cramps.

While the incident set off alarm bells all indications suggest it is a case of fatigue rather than a severe injury.

Once back at Valdebebas, Alaba will resume training under Xabi Alonso, allowing the coach to manage his recovery carefully.

With Real Madrid facing a demanding schedule, including La Liga and Champions League fixtures, proper monitoring will be crucial to avoid further issues.

Although the scare was enough to worry the club and the fans, sources indicate that Alaba is expected to recover quickly.

Muscle fatigue and cramps are common after international duty, especially for players who have recently returned from rest or lighter schedules.

Real Madrid will ensure that he receives adequate care before reintegrating him into the squad.

For now, it seems Alaba’s scare is minor, but Madrid will continue to assess him to ensure he is fully fit for upcoming matches, although it must be noted that he is not expected to start against Real Sociedad on Saturday.
