Ibrahima Konaté is in the final year of his Liverpool contract, and with no new deal agreed, his future at Anfield is uncertain.
Reports indicate that PSG and Real Madrid are closely watching the situation and could make a move if contract talks stall before the January transfer window.
As Liverpool evaluates its options, Foot Mercato recently reported that Konaté has been offered to several top European clubs—including PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.
The Spanish and European powerhouse already secured Trent Alexander-Arnold from the Premier League champions last offseason and now seems poised to add another key Liverpool talent to its ranks.
Defensa Central reports that Kylian Mbappé has been speaking with Konaté while on France international duty, gradually persuading him to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2026. Mbappé believes Konaté is keen to move to Real Madrid and is waiting for their official offer.
The Liverpool standout holds a strong position in talks and could benefit from letting events play out before committing to any move. As the January transfer window approaches, Fabrizio Romano reports that Real Madrid is planning to target Konaté next summer, aiming to sign the Liverpool defender once he becomes a free agent.
"It’s another interesting situation because for Konaté, Liverpool are still in conversation with his agents," Romano said on a recent episode of his “Here We Go” podcast. “It’s been a special case because Konaté, one year ago, basically October 2024, was on the verge of signing a new contract with Liverpool.
"Then there have been some problems, some issues in the structure of this new deal, so the negotiation got delayed, and now the agreement is not done or closed, but they are still in conversation, between Konaté and Liverpool, so they are still talking, they are still discussing."
"It’s not something agreed, and it means that several clubs can be interested in the situation of Konaté, clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid. Real Madrid were following the case of William Saliba, but he decided to sign a new deal at Arsenal, so now for Real Madrid, there are other options, and, in the least, Konaté is one of them, but it’s not something done with Real Madrid. It’s too early to say what’s going to happen with Madrid, and so Liverpool are still in conversation with the player to try and extend the contract."
