Bolton chase Hierro

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is on the verge of adding former Spain skipper Fernando Hierro to his cosmopolitan squad.

Allardyce held talks with the 36-year-old defender, currently out of contract following a season in Qatar, and is hopeful of tying up a deal within the next 48 hours.

Hierro was controversially dumped by Real Madrid 12 months ago but Allardyce believes he is still capable of doing a job in the Premiership and could have similar success to the likes of Youri Djorkaeff, Jay-Jay Okocha and Ivan Campo, whose best days were thought to be behind them when they moved to the Reebok.
"I've had talks with Hierro and his representatives over the weekend and he is keen to come to Bolton," said Allardyce.
"I am confident a deal can be done during the early part of this week."
"He has a massive pedigree and I believe, despite him not playing top football in the last year, that he will be a great asset to Bolton Wanderers," he told the Bolton website.
"His experience and ability will add much-needed strength to our defensive line."
