When Thibaut Courtois picked up a long-term injury earlier in the summer, all eyes were on Andriy Lunin.
After spending the majority of his time at Real Madrid on the bench, it was time for Lunin to prove himself by serving as the team’s number-one goalkeeper this season.
However, much to Lunin’s misfortune, Real Madrid ended up signing Kepa Arrizabalaga on a loan deal, specifically in order to replace the injured Courtois.
Sure enough, the arrival of Kepa once again left Andriy Lunin falling behind in the pecking order.
As we approach the second quarter of the season, Lunin has featured in only two competitive matches for Real Madrid so far.
His two appearances came in the first two league matches against Athletic Club and Almeria. That means the Ukrainian international has yet to feature in a single game since the middle of August.
Due to his lack of game-time at Real Madrid, Andriy Lunin is unhappy with his life at Santiago Bernabeu.
This has been reported by Jorge C Picon, who suggests that the goalkeeper is extremely angry at the club for the lack of opportunities.
Lunin’s current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expires at the end of the season, and as per the report, there are no indications that he would want to extend his deal.
This comes on the back of recent reports that have linked Lunin with a move to Celtic, with the Scottish giants keeping a close eye on the young goalkeeper.
Real Madrid, therefore, have a decision to make, as they look to choose between Kepa and Lunin going forward.
