Wenger is somewhat relieved to see his former charge fulfilling his potential at the Bernabeu, but the Frenchman also sounds a little bitter at the success Diarra is enjoying.
Arsene Wenger is glad that “impatient” Lassana Diarra has finally found his feet at a major club, having joined Real Madrid from Portsmouth in January.
The versatile Frenchman moved through both Chelsea and Wenger's Arsenal in search of his big break but he eventually settled on Portsmouth in order to play regularly.
However, Diarra made a big money move to Madrid recently and is sure to be an important player for the Blancos, thus finally fulfilling his dream of becoming a regular starter at a big club.
Wenger, who could probably use Diarra at the moment, has hinted that the 23-year-old's decision to move to Fratton Park was a bad choice in the first place and could have killed his career.
He told TF1, as quoted by Setanta, "He was miraculously [signed] by Juande Ramos, who got to know him during his time in England."
"Otherwise his career would have been written-off in Portsmouth."
"He wanted to play immediately when he joined Arsenal and he wasn’t patient."
