Twenty four hours after the news was reported by The Times, Spanish daily AS today inform their readers that Manchester United expect goalie David De Gea to be at pre-season training on Monday.
AS carry a quote from an unnamed source at Real Madrid in their Wednesday paper, who said:
"Unless there is an agreement by Monday, which looks unlikely, De Gea will start the season with the team, so it is not very pleasant for anyone involved."
AS paint Louis van Gaal out to be the bad guy, claiming the Iron Tulip is “forcing” De Gea to return for pre-season training on Monday.
Of course, another way of reading the current situation is that until the two clubs have a deal, there is no deal, and so it is only right and prudent that Man United expect De Gea to return to work with the rest of the squad at the start of next week.
The Spanish paper also make it clear to their readers that De Gea himself wants to leave Man United as soon as possible, reporting “the keeper has asked to leave the English team”, while the Spanish stopper is said to have agreed terms to move to Madrid “several weeks ago”.
Looking at the bigger picture, nothing in AS’s update on Wednesday stops readers from assuming that at the end of the day, David De Gea will ultimately get his switch to Spain
