Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao has joined AS Monaco on loan until the end of the season.
The Portugal international has found his first-team opportunities limited at the Bernabeu by the form of Marcelo in the past two seasons.
Coentrao - who has made 55 La Liga appearances for Real - joins the French club until June 30 2016.
The 27-year-old did not feature in Madrid's 0-0 draw with Sporting Gijon in the opening weekend of the La Liga season, with Br azilian Marcelo the preferred option for new boss Rafael Benitez.
But Coentrao is expected to go straight into Leonardo Jardim's squad for Monaco's home match with Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.
The former Benfica defender joined the Madrid club in 2011 for £25million, but despite featuring regularly during his opening two seasons, the left-sided Portuguese failed to make a starting berth his own.
Coentrao was linked with a summer transfer move to Manchester United during the David Moyes era in 2013, but the player capped 50 times for Portugal will now look to resurrect his career on the French coast.
Coentrao will be reunited with former Madrid and Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho and fellow countryman Bernardo Silva, who has featured once for the national side.
